Malware Investigator is a tool that provides users the ability to submit suspected malware files and within as little as an hour, receive detailed technical information about what the malware does and what it may be targeting.
The following information is provided to you in order to explain to you the reasons for requesting information in the Malware Investigator system.
The FBI's authority to solicit this information from you is pursuant to 5 U.S.C. § 301, 44 U.S.C § 3101, 28 U.S.C. § 533, 42 U.S.C. § 3771, and 28 C.F.R. § 0.85. In compliance with these authorities, the FBI will collect your name and organizational identification from the FBI's Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal (LEEP) for the limited purpose of allowing you access to Malware Investigator. The furnishing of this information is voluntary; however, you may not submit information to Malware Investigator if you do not provide the requested information to LEEP.
Malware Investigator also collects your email address, if you choose to share it. By entering your email address, you consent to sharing your submitted files with groups or organizations that you designate. The collection of this information is voluntary and will only be shared with those groups and/or organizations you designate as well as appropriate FBI personnel.
